Combating the spread of diseases, protecting animal health and welfare, ensuring plant health, and guarding against the spread of invasive species are key responsibilities of state departments of agriculture. NASDA members are actively engaged in these issues at the state, federal and international level to ensure the safety and profitability of U.S. agriculture.

The 2018 Farm Bill needs to establish a three-tiered program to deliver the sufficient development and timely deployment of all measures necessary to prevent, identify and mitigate the potentially catastrophic impacts an animal disease outbreak would have on our country’s food security, export markets, and overall economic stability.
