Zach joined the Department in 2017 as deputy legal counsel where he gained an in-depth understanding of department services and the innerworkings of Montana’s state government while developing a strong voice for rural communities, producers, businesses and allied industries in various capacities at the department.
A native of Choteau, Montana, Zach grew up irrigating barley and cutting alfalfa hay fields on the front range of Montana’s “golden triangle” region.
Prior to joining the department, Zach served as Judicial Law Clerk to Hon. DeeAnn Cooney in the First Judicial District Court in Helena. In 2015, he earned a Juris Doctorate from University of Montana School of Law focused on Environmental and Natural Resource Law. Zach earned his B.A. in Political Science with emphasis on Economics and Sustainable Development from Washington State University in 2011.
In his free time, Zach enjoys all things outdoors and spending time with his wife and two boys.
