From November 2024 to March 2025, NASDA field enumerators will visit farms across the U.S. for the USDA Conservation Effects Assessment Project, a partnership between the National Agricultural Statistics Service and the Natural Resource Conservation Service. Enumerators will collect data on chemical use, fertilizer, tillage, irrigation and conservation practices, like cover cropping and no-till, through interviews with farmers.
This survey assesses how these practices improve soil health, reduce erosion and protect water quality. It also explores farming’s role in combating climate change, such as trapping carbon in soil and enhancing resilience to droughts and floods.
Farmers’ input will guide USDA programs that support sustainable practices, ensuring agriculture remains strong for future generations. Since 1972, NASDA enumerators have partnered with NASS to collect critical agricultural data, amplifying farmers’ voices in shaping conservation policies.
